Students’ Opinions about the Author as a Teacher
QUESTION: What do you like most about the way I teach?
- Mr. Dude, you are very fun and cool, understanding and caring!
- I love how you make everything fun, interesting and always understand.
- Mr. Eyl makes the class interesting.
- You understand us in a way other teachers don’t know how. You’re funny, you make the class cool and go by fast. You’re shorter than I am.
- You’re really funny and you teach in a way we can understand.
- You make it fun to learn. You can turn anything into a joke. It is easier to learn when we are also having fun.
- I think that your best quality as a teacher would be your helpfulness. Any time anyone needs help or has a question, you give them a full explanation and make sure they understand. A lot of teachers wouldn’t want to even bother with most questions.
- I like how you had humor in your teaching which makes students feel relaxed and easier to work with. I like how you used things that we are interested in, like music, to teach us valuable things, such as poetry.
- I like the way that he is funny and always explains things and repeats things for us when we don’t listen or remember.
- You accept late work. It’s funny when you flip out.
- That I’m passing this class
- You’re not a hard grader.
- You’re not a hard grader and you let us make up extra credit so we can get a good grade.
- You respond to us and always seem to listen.
- The things I probably like most is I’m learning new things and it is a non-stressful environment.
- I liked how enthusiastic you were about teaching and how much energy you showed during the class. I also liked your sense of humor.
- You are fun because you know how to make it fun.
- I like how you really interact with us and how you made it easy to understand the harder parts of English.
- You make things simple to understand. You make class fun and interject interesting things with our schoolwork.
- I like the way you teach class. It is not like any other I have had.
- I like how you make the subjects we learn fun and exciting, not boring.
- Not overloaded with work
- You are very open-minded and you are never boring.
- Enthusiasm makes me want to learn
- Funny guy
- What I like about the way you teach is that you find humor in a lot of things we do.
- You are cool!
- He is not really far from our age, so he understands us more than older teachers would.
- I like that you treat us as equals and not just your "students."
- I don’t know. You seem like you’re in a natural environment when you teach. You seem relaxed and that’s good.
- It’s fun and we still learn.
- You are creative and have many ways to teach us. You are very helpful.
- You are creative and patient and nice. You keep things simple and don’t make things more complicated than they should be or insist on us doing busy work. You rawk!
- You are funny, entertaining, but also teach us a lot, and you’re always enthusiastic. I enjoy your class a lot.
- Nice and understanding
- You are a good person to have as a teacher. I like the way you give the class so many options to work with.
- You’re very cool about it. You don’t treat it like a job. I think you’ll make an awesome teacher. I know you’re the coolest and very best one I’ve ever had.
- You make teaching fun.
- I like how you are upbeat and usually happy. Plus, you don’t dwell on one subject for three years.
- You’re funny, helpful, and you work with us and go over stuff with us.
- It’s a fun class. He makes learning fun. It’s a nice class environment.
- I like how Mr. Eyl is willing to give everyone a fair chance to do and turn in their work. He always listens to what we tell or ask him.
- Most of the things are not boring and are interesting. Some stuff is fun, serious about other stuff. I learn easily in this class.
- We do a lot of group things. You don’t make us sit and learn from the books. I like our cards and making sentences.
- I like how you keep the class pretty laid-back and easy-going. We get all our work done while not feeling like we are in a strict environment. Truthfully, this is the one class I look forward to.
- It’s very interactive.
- You can always relate to students as equals, not subordinants. I think that’s the best way to get through to us.
- You’re more concerned about people learning instead of rules; funny; make things interesting. You’re on the same level as us.
- I like everything. The only thing that bugs me is that too many people walk all over you and don’t pay attention very well.
- You relate with us as if we are human, not like other teachers that don’t get to know us and just think of us as a herd of cattle. Thanks forever.
- You are a good person who makes class more interesting for the students. You assist me in understanding the more complex grammar we have to learn.
- The comedy involved! Funny teachers are the best. Plus, espressos rule.
- You’re funny and you’re not mean. You make learning fun.
- You give us more time when we need help.
- You are a very simple and get-to-the-subject kind of guy. That’s good!
- You know what you are doing and are very helpful.
- You always know what you’re teaching. You care about us and what we think. You care what we think and are pretty flexible.
- You’re funny, even though you tease us. It’s cool, though. Don’t stop the teasing.
- You make it seem less boring. You make all of your students laugh!
- You always give us a second chance.
- Mr. Eyl is great. He should be teaching kindergarten, but he’s fun.
- Because you’re funny, you don’t do English things boring as they really are. You’re smart!
- That you make it fun and cool to learn and that you are never in a poopy way! Don’t change! Stay the same!
- That you’re a fair grader
- You don’t have an exact schedule that we have to do. Many teachers say you have exactly ten minutes to do something and then stop us in ten minutes. You will say ten minutes and let us go until we are mostly done.
- I like the way you always go about making us interested in what we are doing. You never seem to be sad at something we are doing in class.
QUESTION: If you could suggest one change to make me a better teacher, what would it be?
- Nothing because I think you’re a good teacher!
- Nothing because you are a great teacher!
- Nothing, you’re doing a great job. Thanks.
- I can’t think of anything right now.
- Believe it or not, you do not have to yell to get the students’ attention. You could shut off the lights or something.
- Just be a little more organized and prepared, but I think that is something that comes with experience.
- I think you could be a little creative with your teaching. For example, find more projects that we could do or more big papers that would take time.
- Be tough, but not too tough.
- No written work
- Dress better. Your taste is very bad!
- I would suggest being really nice to kids named Jesse.
- You are a great teacher and I don’t want you to change.
- I don’t know how you could change for the better because you are sweet.
- Nothing
- Nothing. I think you do a great job.
- Perfect
- I don’t think I would change anything.
- Less reading out of the book; the book is boring.
- Use the silent yelling instead of yelling.
- You are a great teacher as you are.
- Nothing
- Grow about six inches so you can see over us when we sit down.
- I can’t think of anything at the moment.
- Get better candy and keep it stocked.
- Make class easier!
- Don’t let people ignore the things you ask them to do. Spend a little more time explaining things (such as prepositions, gerunds, etc.) and make sure the kids pay attention so that they will understand.
- Help us more with those gerund things.
- No homework
- You’re doing a great job. No homework.
- Nothing; you’re perfect the way you are!!
- More group activities
- Stilts
- Nothing. You’re great just the way you are.
- No homework

- Go more slowly and make sure that everyone is caught up to each other.
- I can’t think of anything au minuit.
- Let me sit by Kim.
- Less work (ha ha ha)
- I think you’re o.k.
- Be a little more strict! Too many people are dumb and obnoxious.
- Do not put me next to Matt.
- Try different ways of showing us parts of a sentence.
- You and Mitchell should teach together.
- Stay the same. Don’t ever change.
- Don’t put too much pressure upon yourself. If people are not paying attention in your class, 90% of it is not your fault.
- Maybe you should treat some people the same way.
- When someone raises their hand, try and get to them faster.
- Treat everyone the same. Be interested in what you’re teaching and let it be known. Get directions down to easy terms.
- None.
- Make some of the stuff more interesting.
- Nothing.
- Nothing
- Nothing.
- The only thing that I can think about is going over the vocab more. That’s really all.
